Definition of Akal

Akal in terms of understanding the language:

Akal comes from the Arabic word and has been widely used in Malay.

According to Al-Mukjam Al-Arabi Al-Asasi (Arabic Dictionary); Akal means something that used to think. Human and animal are different by akal.

According to Kamus Dewan (Malay Dictionary); Akal in Malay means mind, force efforts, endeavors and trickery.

In terms of English language; Akal called reason, intelligence, intellect and understanding.


Akal in terms of understanding by the intellectual:

Akal in term by the intellectual according to their respective fields are below;

According to Imam Abu al-Harith al-Muhasibi (243 h); "Akal is al-gharizah of human nature and ability to understand things."

Akal according to terms have the meanings following the philosopher; "Single Thing (Jauhar Fard) fact to understand things." (Definition of al-Kindi, Ibn. Sina and Jarjani).
